Why You Should Consider a Christmas Holiday

Before we get into it, we understand that going away for Christmas sounds like a terrible idea to a lot of people. So many people believe that taking a trip away over the Christmas period is too stressful, too much effort or just too expensive.

But it doesn’t have to be! Take a look at some of the reasons you should consider getting away this Christmas:

Stop the running around

As wonderful as Christmas at home may be, nobody enjoys the constant running around that goes with it. With modern families, you can end up having to enjoy 3 or 4 Christmases in the same day. Breakfast at home, presents with the inlaws, dinner with your folks and then back to yours with your own family… and all of this before the Eastenders Christmas special? It can be mayhem.

If you manage to get away for a few days over the holiday period then you avoid the constant running around. Everything you need in one place; family, Christmas dinner, the television set – it’s all there at your disposal without a seatbelt in sight!

So if you want to doze-off on the sofa after dinner without having to be anywhere else, you fancy a cheeky Bucks Fizz to start your day or you want to work your way through various festive glasses of mulled wine whilst watching Love Actually for the 23rd time – then going away for Christmas might actually be for you.

Relax and recharge

After weeks and weeks of preparation for the big day, blink twice and it’s all over. Then what’s left? Five weird days where nobody has any concept of time or knows what day it is until New Years Eve arrives. You spend the best part of a week eating sausage rolls and mince pies for breakfast and all that’s left to do is tidy up and back to reality.

Well, you can avoid all of this by going away. When Christmas day comes to an end, you won’t be left with any anti-climatic emptiness, instead, you’ll be able to explore your new location, find fun new things to do and be with the ones you love and enjoy Christmas as a whole holiday rather than a single, hectic day. All of this without having to worry if your partner’s siblings will judge you for taking on the left-over advent calendar chocolate at 09:37am.

“I hosted last year, it’s your turn”

Whether you want to be the dedicated Christmas host or not, the humble abode that accommodates the family on Christmas day is infamous for causing rows. People don’t want to be travelling miles to the hosts house on Christmas day as much as the hosts don’t want to get lumbered with all of the clearing up, tidying and pressure that come with having every round on Christmas day.

So avoid having to carry an emergency deck-chair round your Auntie Maureen’s house this year and consider getting away. By hiring out a holiday cottage, you can have all your family in one place with enough room (and chairs) for everybody without anyone having to worry about getting home to feed the dog and without anyone having to stress about washing up 10 different plates and an inconspicuous amount of pots and pans all on their own.

New traditions

Often, the biggest fear with going away over Christmas is really just because it’s so different to what most of us are used to. But once you take the leap of faith and experience a Christmas away from home, often people fall in love with the relaxing nature of a Christmas where all they need to worry about is if they’ve peeled enough potatoes.
