Taste the true flavour of Suffolk - Visit its local breweries!

Suffolk is famous for many things. However, it is certainly well-known for its fantastic breweries, which produce some of the countries finest ales and ciders. In fact, Suffolk is home to two of the UK’s largest remaining breweries, Greene King and Adnams. There is an abundance of breweries that can be found throughout Suffolk, including Aspall in Debenham, The Old Cannon Brewery in Bury St Edmunds and the picturesque St Peter’s Brewery that can be found in Bungay.

A variety of different sized breweries can be found in Suffolk, from some of the most famous names to those that are lesser known, crafting charming beverages with true local character. The smallest pub in Britain can even be found within the heart of Suffolk in Bury St Edmunds! Aptly named ‘The Nutshell’, it is officially in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest existing pub in Britain.

The Suffolk Campaign for Real Ale provides a fantastic list of all the breweries that can be found throughout the county. The majority of these breweries will provide tours, during which you can sample some of their famous beverages and learn about the rich history and character that is behind those walls.

The various beer festivals hosted by pubs and breweries across Suffolk provide a great opportunity to sample some of the finest local ales, while having a fantastic day out. Our recommendations over the next few months include;

The Stowmarket John Peel Winter Beer Festival - Stowmarket - 25th - 27th February.

East Anglian Beer & Cider Festival  - Apex, Bury St Edmunds 20th - 23rd April 2016.
