Countryside Activities For Kids

Going on a child-friendly holiday isn’t just about booking a place with the right facilities to cater for the younger guest, it is about going somewhere where childhood dreams come true! We’ve selected some fab ways to enjoy the countryside near Gladwins Farm with kids.

Wildlife Spotting

The local area is teeming with a wonderful array of wildlife. You could either head out on a walk and see what you can spot, or download a spotting sheet to really challenge the children! Consider having a little competition if there are a few of you with a small prize for the person that spots the most. Don’t forget to say hello to the Gladwins Gang too! Our sheep, chickens, goats and horses love it when children visit!

Why not head to nearby Fingringhoe Wick Nature Reserve – There are loads of animals to discover here such as birds, butterflies, snakes, goats and sheep plus places to sit and watch birds. Children can also take part on a range of woodland themed activities. Mums, Dads and carers will be pleased to know that there is a fine café on-site, complemented by a gift shop.

Beach Combing

The Essex and Suffolk coast is a wonderful place to explore, and there are extra special spots where kids could find something other than pretty pebbles, seaweed and bleached crabs legs. Mersea Island for example is famed for its oysters, and there are plenty of shells littering its shores. Walton-on-the-Naze is known for prehistoric treasures such as ancient sharks teeth and The Suffolk coastline is a great place to find amber!

Kite Flying

The flat terrain that Constable Country is famed for quite often makes this area perfect for kite flying, not only because you can get a good run-up to launch, but also because of the winds that blow around these parts. You could either head to one of the many long beaches, or a nearby country park.

Forest Foraging

East Anglia is blessed with plentiful woodlands, perfect for little ones to explore all year round. Pinecones, conkers, berries, twigs, feathers, and flowers are all great things to forage for, and are ideal for making impromptu artworks on your walk.

Don’t forget that we have lots of child-friendly activities on-site at Gladwins Farm, including tennis, croquet, a swimming pool, and play barn!
